Open Call to Ceramic Artists
Northern California Ceramics Exhibition is an juried exhibition celebrating the depth and diversity of contemporary ceramic practice across Northern California. The exhibition brings together emerging and established artists working in clay and is organized across three award categories: Sculptural, Functional, and Best in Show.
The Sculptural category highlights experimental and conceptual ceramic works that challenge traditional form and scale. The Functional category honors vessels and utilitarian objects where craftsmanship, design, and daily use intersect. Best in Show is awarded to a singular work that demonstrates exceptional vision, technical excellence, and a commanding artistic presence.
Northern California has long been a center for ceramic innovation and material exploration, shaping the broader national conversation around clay. This inaugural exhibition acknowledges that legacy while spotlighting contemporary artists whose work reflects both mastery of the medium and a distinct point of view.
Works are reviewed by a panel of special judges with expertise in ceramics, contemporary art, and curatorial practice. Selected artists will receive awards and special recognitions, announced at the exhibition’s opening reception and acknowledged in exhibition materials and future promotions.
The Northern California Ceramics Exhibition is brought to you by SMAART Studio & KnK Contemporary to shine light onto the excellence, visibility, and community within the ceramic arts.

Submission Fee: $25
Will be notified by Feb 20th, Friday about your submission.
All artists that have been selected will have to sign a gallery contract (50/50 standard split), which will be emailed with your acceptance email.

Art Drop Off: Feb 27th Friday & Feb 28th, Saturday , 1-6 pm at the gallery ,
1049 Sutter St.

Opening Reception: March 5th, Thursday 6-9 pm
The opening will be during the Tenderloin Art Walk
CCI exhibition dates: March 5th, Thursday to March 29th Sunday
Artwork pick up: March 30th, Monday & March 31st, Tuesday 1-6pm
